When arriving by bus in Arusha at the busstation the tourists are followed by many so-called tourist-hunters. They try to bring you to hotels where they get a commission, or they introduce you to safari-bookers where they get also a commission. Not all those "hunters" are honest and correct. Many tourists are paying too much for their hotels or do not get the safari where they have booked for. Especially when more days are booked than one gets, it can cost you a lot of money.
The worst is a certain Clemens alias No. 1. He can drive you crazy with his talks and in the mean time he is cheating you by making deals, which are not effected completely. For example you book a 6-days safari and you get only 3 or 4, or you go to the wrong park. It will cost you a lot of money and you don´t have the possibility to get it back. Of course you can go to the police to complain. But before the case goes to the court you have already left the country. He only has to ask the judge that he wants to see you about the complaint. Because you are not there, the judge will dismiss the case. So he is free to go and he starts again his cheating.

So, do not make use of the so-called services of this man or his "friends". Book your safari in an official office or via your hotel manager to have a possibility of reclamation. Try to pay the safari in terms, especially if a big amount has to be paid.

By the way, we had a very nice time in Arusha!

Als je in Arusha arriveert met de bus, word je op het busstation opgewacht door een hordes "toeristen-hunters", die je allemaal de weg willen wijzen naar een hotel, of die je een safari proberen te verkopen. Zij krijgen commissie voor iedere toerist die zij een hotel inpraten of bij een safari-operator boeken. Dit gaat niet altijd zoals het hoort. Veel toeristen komen bedrogen uit. Ze betalen teveel voor het hotel, of krijgen niet de safari die hen wordt voorgespiegeld. Vooral wanneer meer dagen betaald worden dan je krijgt, kun je behoorlijk het schip in gaan.
Berucht in Arusha is een zekere Clemens, ook wel No. 1 genoemd. Hij intimideert toeristen, bedriegt ze en schrikt er niet voor terug afspraken te maken die niet nagekomen worden. Verschillende malen is daartegen een aanklacht ingediend. Steeds werden de rechtzaken tegen hem geseponeerd, omdat hij beroep deed op het feit dat de aanklacht niet mondeling toegelicht kon worden door de gedupeerde, die immers al lang en breed weer thuis zat en de zaak liet afhandelen door een advocaat.

Ga niet met deze man of één van zijn stromannen in zee voor wat dan ook. Regel een safari uitsluitend via een erkende safari-operator, of via het hotel, zodat verhaal mogelijk is als het contract niet wordt nagekomen. Probeer de safari in gedeeltes te betalen, vooral als het om grote bedragen gaat.

Overigens hebben wij wel en leuke tijd gehad in Arusha!
